BOARD

Kay Wasden

Founder & Board President

Kay has lived in Houston for 27 years and has raised two children here. She is passionate about children, literacy, and education equity. A practicing musician and former educator, Kay started COR Houston after seeing the enormous need for food, clothing, and hygiene items first-hand at an HISD middle school close to her home.

Anne Furse

Board Vice President

Anne became involved in COR Houston while working on a project to help restore HISD’s libraries and seeing the differences in resources among Houston schools. A former lawyer and a mother of three, she is active in a variety of Houston community organizations and is particularly interested in literacy, environmental conservation, and education.

Cristina Vetrano

Chief Executive Officer, Ronald McDonald House Houston

Cristina joined the COR Houston board because she has three kids and they have all benefited from a public school education. However, she has seen the enormous need over the years and has been honored to help COR Houston in any way she can. Cristina has been in the not-for-profit sector for over 30 years and has served as President & CEO of CanCare, Executive Director of Kids Meals, and in various roles at the American Red Cross.

Steve Vetrano

Chief Executive Officer, Avondale House

Steve is the CEO of Avondale House, which provides specialized, high-quality education and services to children and adults with autism. Before joining Avondale, he served as CEO of the Texas Gulf Region of the American Red Cross.

COR Houston has no paid staff; volunteers manage all of our purchasing, deliveries, bookkeeping, and other activities.
