We began as a book group whose members wanted to support students in some of our city’s underserved neighborhoods. We contacted two Houston ISD Title I schools in February 2021 and asked if we could donate books and college prep textbooks.

One week later, Texas experienced a devastating freeze and power outage. We received urgent texts from staff at the schools, asking us to bring food and water for their families, which we did.

At that point, we decided to shift our focus, asking the schools what they needed most, and obtaining those items for their students. We started collecting supplies and reaching out to more schools.

In the summer of 2021, we formed an official partnership with HISD. In our first year in operation, we gave thousands of items of clothing, hygiene supplies, books, and school supplies to HISD students in need. We quickly realized that becoming a tax-exempt nonprofit organization would enable us to make a more significant impact.

In June 2022 we obtained 501(c)(3) status; the resulting donations have enabled us to expand to provide support to more than 150 HISD schools. We plan to assist more students in the coming year.
